Native meadows are great, low-water features in coastal climes and adaptable to a wide range of cold exposures too! Summer watering keeps grasses green while spaces can be freely seeded with additional wildflowers where desired. A quick mix of California's most adaptable and drought-tolerant perennial wild grass species and most iconic annual wildflowers. To maintain weed whack grasses by 1/3 *only* (never more than 1/3 at a time) when Bentgrass starts to flop over in fall and late spring. 

40% NATIVE BENTGRASS - Agrostis pallens

Soft Grass to 12-18" high. Native to coastal and mountainous regions up and down California. Developed by grass breeder Jodie Sheffield for sustainable golf course uses as it can be mown or left long for rough. Spreads gently by runners. Can brown in summer. Prefers good soil drainage. 

30% BEARDLESS WILD RYE - Leymus tricoides

Stiffer grass to 18-24" high. Spreading, more shade tolerant. And seriously drought wise. According to the USDA Leymus tricoides was thought to be a pre-colonial cornerstone grass in central California grasslands and low-elevation oak woodlands now lost to agriculture. It's resilient and, in addition to heat, it can also enjoy growing in flood plains with some shade. 

30% POPPY / CLARKIA BLEND - Eschscholzia (varous) / Clarkia amoena

California's most iconic annual wildflowers deliver a welcome show. Growing quickly to take over gaps between the slower growing grasses. Collect seed heads to dry and shake out next fall, or leave to self-sow. Clarkia's may not respond well to transplant so are occasionally mixed with poppy seeds in these trays.
